Rajahmundry, October 5: A political storm erupted in Andhra Pradesh after BCVY Party president Bode Ramachandra Yadav was detained by police in Rajahmundry while heading to Rajayyapeta to support fishermen opposing a bulk drug factory project.
Police prevented Yadav from leaving his hotel, citing preventive orders under Section 30 of the Police Act. Media and party members were also barred from entering the premises, sparking sharp criticism from political observers.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!“This is not democracy — this is police rule,” said Ramachandra Yadav, accusing the authorities of violating his fundamental rights.
“Red Book Regime, Not Ambedkar’s Constitution”
Yadav questioned whether the Constitution was still being respected in Andhra Pradesh.
“Everywhere I go, police serve notices or detain me. Is this Ambedkar’s Constitution or a Red Book regime?” he asked.
Background: The Bulk Drug Factory Protest
Residents of Rajayyapeta in Payakaraopeta constituency have been protesting the forcible acquisition of their lands for an upcoming bulk drug manufacturing facility.
The fishermen community argues the project endangers their livelihood and environment.
Yadav, known for his advocacy on farmers’ and fishermen’s issues, had planned to visit the site in solidarity.
Police Action Sparks Outrage
BCVY leaders condemned the police behavior, calling it unconstitutional.
“The police have become puppets of political power,” the party alleged in a statement.
Yadav’s CRPF security staff were allegedly manhandled during the standoff, with officers reportedly pushing and shoving them inside the hotel corridor.
“We Will Not Let Them Take a Single Cent”
“The government is trying to grab fishermen’s and farmers’ land in the name of industry. We won’t allow a single cent to be taken,” Yadav declared.
He accused authorities of colluding with corporate interests and warned that “illegal arrests cannot silence the people’s movement.”
Call for Democratic Accountability
BCVY leaders demanded the immediate release of detained fishermen and activists, stressing that dissent is a democratic right.
“You cannot arrest an idea. People’s struggles will continue,” Yadav stated.
Looking Ahead
He announced plans to approach the courts for justice and, if needed, raise the issue with central authorities.
“If the government truly wants jobs and development, it has thousands of acres of unused land. Why snatch the livelihood lands of poor fishermen?” he asked.
The incident has become a flashpoint in the debate over civil liberties and the misuse of police powers in Andhra Pradesh.
