Srikakulam: Heavy rush of devotees on the occasion of Kartika Ekadashi led to tragedy at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kashinbugga, Srikakulam district. A stampede that broke out amidst confusion in the queue lines resulted in the death of nine people, while several others sustained injuries.
There is widespread shocked and grief across the state over this incident. Public representatives have expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the government to extend support to the victims. Officials have already directed hospitals to provide immediate and advanced medical treatment to the injured.
According to government sources, an inquiry has been ordered into this tragic incident that took place at the Kashinbugga temple, which is managed by private individuals. Given that the month of Kartika draws large crowds to major temples and Shaiva shrines across the state, the Endowments Department and the police have reportedly been instructed to take special precautions.
Officials said that when there is an anticipated surge in the number of devotees, proper crowd management planning and streamlined queue line systems must be put in place. They emphasized the need to ensure safety measures especially for women, children and senior citizens, and recommended adequate police bandobust and medical camps wherever necessary.
Several prominent national and state political leaders have reacted to the Kashinbugga temple stampede. pm modi and Union Minister Amit Shah, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and others expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
