TELANGANA: When Telangana was formed, it carried the voice of social justice and self-respect. For backward communities (BCs), it was not just a new state, it was a new hope for BC Reservation. A hope that their voice would finally matter. A belief that political power would no longer be controlled by a few dominant groups. That belief now stands wounded. All parties are like political dramas on social justice.
Recently, the Telangana High Court stayed GO 9, which attempted to provide 42% bc reservation to Backward Classes in local body elections . Soon after, the Telangana State Election Commission halted the election notification. This has triggered a statewide political storm.
This is not just a legal setback. It is a betrayal of backward communities, who have been repeatedly used as vote banks and election slogans.
What Went Wrong With GO 9?
The Telangana government issued GO 9, claiming to implement its election promise of giving 42% reservation to BCs. But the order failed in court for basic legal reasons:
Reservation cannot exceed 50%, as per the Indra Sawhney Supreme Court verdict (1992).
The government failed to justify the percentage with proper caste-wise data.
No scientific socio-economic survey or BC population census was produced.
Violated Article 243D of the Constitution which mandates a proper legal process for local body reservations.
In short, the GO was politically motivated and legally weak. It was designed for headlines, not justice.
Political Drama, Not Social Justice:
Backward Classes watched helplessly as political parties converted their future into a stage drama.
Congress promised 42% BC reservation in the Kamareddy Declaration.
But instead of proper legal preparation, it rushed a political announcement.
When challenged in court, it collapsed—because false promises cannot survive legal scrutiny.
The truth is painful: BCs were once again emotionally used for political gain.
High Court Stay Exposed the Truth
The Telangana High Court’s stay order made one thing clear, Governments cannot play with people’s rights for political advantage.
Instead of a strong BC policy:
Telangana got legal shortcuts
Weak documents
Public emotional manipulation
This is not social justice. This is political negligence.
BJP and BRS Are No Different
While the Congres party failed in implementation, the BRS cannot claim moral high ground either. It was in power for 10 years but did not implement BC reservations legally in telangana . Even the BC Commission Report was hidden from the public for years.
Similarly, BJP remained silent, even though BC bills are pending with the Centre. Political parties change, power changes—but the exploitation of BCs never changes.
Who Is Paying the Price?
After the court stay, telangana local body elections are delayed, development is stalled and people are suffering. Schools, water projects, rural employment—everything is disrupted. The fight for reservations has now punished the same people it was meant to protect.
What Must Happen Now
If Telangana truly cares about BC empowerment, then:
Conduct caste-based population data transparently
Implement reservations with legal backing and constitutional process
Stop election-based social justice gimmicks
Bring true BC leadership into decision-making
Final Word:
Political promises come and go. Election manifestos change. But social justice is not a campaign slogan. Backward Classes are not a political script—they are living people who fight daily for livelihood, dignity and equal opportunity.
Telangana must choose—political drama or constitutional justice.
