Hyderabad Rider Alleges Pricing Manipulation by Uber Auto
Hyderabad, February 12, 2025 :
A recent incident involving Uber Auto in Hyderabad has raised concerns over pricing transparency and alleged unfair trade practices by the ride-hailing company. A passenger has reported discrepancies in fare calculations, claiming that he was charged more than the initially displayed price.
Discrepancy in Fare Calculation
According to the rider, who booked an Uber Auto from SPR & D Hill, Moti Nagar, Hyderabad, to Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad, the app displayed ₹154 as the upfront fare before booking. However, once the ride started, the driver allegedly demanded ₹ 203, a significantly higher amount than initially shown moreover the uber Auto negligency.
Despite making the payment as per the driver’s demand, Uber later issued an invoice for ₹154, hiding the excess amount collected. This discrepancy raises concerns over pricing manipulation and transparency in Uber’s fare calculation system.
Consumer Rights Violation?
This incident brings to light possible violations of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which safeguards consumers against unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements. The lack of clarity in Uber’s pricing mechanism has sparked debate over whether riders are unknowingly being overcharged in cash payments.
The affected passenger has announced his intention to file a formal complaint with the Consumer Forum, seeking an explanation and accountability from Uber India
