Towards Regaining Public Trust: Telangana RTC’s New Safety Measures
Though slogans like “Don’t travel in private vehicles — travel safely with RTC” are often heard , the recent increase in RTC bus accidents across the country has caused some fear among passengers. Incidents like the tragic Kurnool district bus accident deeply shocked people, and the visuals of that tragedy are still fresh in memory. As such accidents continue to occur, some citizens are beginning to wonder — “Is RTC travel truly safe anymore?”
However, in reality, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is moving strongly towards ensuring safety. Considering passenger safety as its foremost duty, the corporation has introduced several innovative safety measures — not merely on paper, but actively implemented in every bus and on every journey.
Passenger Welfare — RTC’s Core Mission
Every day, Telangana RTC safely transports lakhs of passengers to their destinations through various categories of buses. For the public, bus travel remains an affordable and convenient mode of transportation. The widespread connectivity of RTC buses, low fares, timely schedules, and experienced staff have all earned the trust of the people. Yet, safety is paramount. Recognizing this, RTC has begun installing advanced safety systems in its buses to reinforce passenger confidence.
Advanced Fire Safety Systems to Prevent Accidents
Some accidents are caused by engine or electrical malfunctions that lead to fires. Keeping this in mind, RTC officials have installed modern fire safety systems in buses. Particularly in high-end models such as Lahari A.C. Sleeper, Lahari A.C. Sleeper-cum-Seater, and Rajadhani A.C. buses, the following measures have been implemented:
Emergency Exit Doors provided at the rear of the buses.
Safety Hammers placed near windows to break glass during emergencies.
Fire Extinguishers installed at easily accessible points.
Automatic Fire Detection Systems in the driver’s cabin, which instantly respond to any fire outbreak.
Fire Alarm Sirens to alert passengers immediately.
These systems act promptly to prevent major accidents and ensure timely evacuation.
Safety Measures in All Bus Categories
Fire extinguishers are now mandatory in all bus categories — Super Luxury, Deluxe, Express, and Palle Velugu (Rural Service) buses.
Super Luxury Buses: Equipped with right-side rear emergency exits.
Deluxe & Express Buses: Rear exit doors and fire extinguishers for quick evacuation.
Palle Velugu Buses: Even rural service buses now include emergency exits and fire safety devices, showcasing RTC’s dedication to safety in every route.
Through these actions, RTC is evolving from being merely an affordable transport option to one of the safest public transport systems.
Special Training for Drivers
RTC drivers and conductors undergo specialized safety and emergency-response training. They are taught how to act swiftly in emergencies, handle fire incidents, and safely evacuate passengers.
To reduce driver-related errors, RTC has also implemented resting schedules and duty-hour control systems. Fatigue management, speed monitoring, and alertness during night driving are continuously supervised.
Technology-Based Monitoring
RTC buses are now equipped with GPS-based tracking systems. These provide real-time data to the control room about each bus’s location, speed, and traffic-signal compliance.
Additionally, many buses have CCTV cameras and Driver Behavior Monitoring Systems to enhance vigilance. These technologies act as an additional layer of protection for passengers.
Public Response — Restoring Faith in RTC
Although private travels once drew passengers away from RTC, the recent safety improvements are helping RTC regain the public’s trust.
Many passengers now say, “At least with RTC, our lives are in safe hands.” With its legal framework, experienced workforce, and government oversight, RTC is steadily reaffirming itself as a reliable and trustworthy public service institution.
RTC’s Message to the Public
“Your support is our greatest strength.
Your safety is our top priority.
Traveling by RTC buses is Safe, Comfortable, and Trustworthy.”
— Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC)
This is not just a slogan — it’s a commitment visible in every journey. From the moment passengers board until they reach their destination, every system in place ensures safety and peace of mind.
Conclusion
Telangana RTC is not merely a transport organization — it is a public service institution committed to the safety and well-being of citizens. Through modern technology, trained staff, and secure vehicles, RTC stands as a Safe, Reliable, and People-Friendly corporation.
If these initiatives continue to strengthen, the slogan “Travel Safely with RTC” will not remain just words — it will stand as a symbol of public trust and confidence.
